Chicago Bears Rumors: Kevin White & Danny Shelton Targeted in NFL Draft?

The Chicago Bears hold the seventh overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. With that pick the team could go in several different directions. Most recently, that direction has pointed to West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White.

"After shipping Brandon Marshall to the Jets, the Bears are in need of another playmaker opposite Alshon Jeffery," Kevin Weidl of Scouts Inc. wrote. "White is an explosive receiver with an excellent combination of size, speed and strength to outduel defenders in downfield situations. While receiver might no be their biggest need, the Bears might not be able to pass on White and his big-play capabilities from a value standpoint if he gets to No. 7."

White may be an enticing prospect, but some scouts are worried about his unproven track record. He has just one year of big time production at West Virginia. Should Chicago pass on White (or should the Oakland Raiders snag him at No. 4) then Washington defensive Tackle Danny Shelton is an interesting option.

"The signing of Ray McDonald added size and helps ease the transition from a 4-3 to a base 3-4 front under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio," Weidl wrote. "However, McDonald has had his share of off-the-field issues and may not be able to be relied upon in the future. Shelton has massive size, explosive upper-body power and is the best interior run defender in this class."

The Bears ranked 17th in rush defense last season, allowing 112.7 yards per game on the ground. Shelton, at 6-foot-2 and 339 pounds, would help in that department as a big-bodied anchor for Chicago's defensive line.

The NFL Draft kicks off on April 30.
