MLB Injury Report: David Wright, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Carrasco and Ivan Nova Updates

A couple of teams received bad news regarding some injured players on Tuesday night while a couple of others received good news. Those names include Mets third baseman David Wright, Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco and Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova.

The first bad news comes from New York. Wright left last night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the bottom of the eighth inning after he pulled his right hamstring on a stolen base attempt. The third baseman is now scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday morning, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The Mets will wait for the MRI results, but it doesn't look to great because manager Terry Collins said the injury is "a major problem," via Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal. Wright will more than likely hit the 15-day disabled list.

In Boston, the Red Sox were worried about Bogaerts, who injured his knee running the bases against the Washington Nationals on Monday. Soreness in the area kept him out of the starting lineup last night and the team sent the shortstop for an MRI on Tuesday morning to see what was wrong.

Manager John Farrell told Alex Speier of WEEI.com that Bogaerts' MRI came back clean and he might be able to play on Wednesday. Third baseman Pablo Sandoval is also doing fine after being hit by a pitch and suffering a bruised left foot, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com.

The Indians received a huge scare on Tuesday night when Carrasco was hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera. The right-hander was helped up by the team's medical staff and was able to walk his own, which was a good sign.

Thankfully Carrasco is only being treated for a jaw contusion after X-rays came back negative, according to Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago. He has no symptoms of a concussion or head injury - more good news for the Indians, who signed him to a four-year, $22 million deal earlier this month.

As for another pitcher, Ivan Nova of the New York Yankees is making progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander threw 20 pitches of live batting practice on Tuesday afternoon in his first time facing batters since last April, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

New York hopes he can return in June, when he'll likely slip into the No. 5 starter role. Adam Warren will probably head back to the bullpen, unless the Yankees have a different plan in mind that hasn't been disclosed.

We'll be keeping updates on each of these players as the week goes on.

UPDATE: The Mets have placed David Wright in the DL, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

UPDATE: Carlos Carrasco will have his next start pushed back by only one day, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.
