Director Matthew Vaughn ("Kingsman," "Kick-Ass") is reportedly being sought by 20th Century Fox to direct a new version of Flash Gordon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who helped write a draft of the upcoming "Star Trek 3," penned the screenplay for this updated iteration. John Davis ("Predator") and George Nolfi "The Adjustment Bureau") are attached as producers.
Should this partnership come to fruition, it would mark Vaughn's fourth comic-based film in a row. 2010's "Kick-Ass" started the trend and was followed by "X-Men: First Class" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service."
Flash Gordon was created by Alex Raymond in 1934. He began as a serialized comic strip that detailed his epic space adventures and his love life with romantic interest Dale Arden. His greatest enemy was Ming the Merciless from the planet Mongo.
Flash Gordon has been adapted for both cinema and television. Director Mike Hodges' big screen adaptation didn't perform well at the box office but has since become a cult classic.
