News has broken that Warner Bros. is not only making a sequel to this summer's blockbuster hit "Man of Steel" it will be adding in another beloved super hero - Batman.
No one is sure who will be taking on the role of the caped crusader along side Henry Cavil now that Christian Bale, the actor who made the role famous in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, has hung up his cowl for good.
However, the actor playing Batman isn't the only mystery behind the film. The press release announcing the film touted the creative team behind "Man of Steel" is mostly returning for a sequel being released in the summer of 2015. What the press release did not have is the title of the new film. However, at a different Comic-Con panel celebrating the 75th anniversary of Superman, screenwriter David S. Goyer claimed there were only two options for the new film, neither of which are particularly revolutionary.
"We're actually not sure whether the title is 'Superman vs. Batman' or 'Batman vs Superman,'" Goyer said.
According to Entertainment Weekly Warner Bros. wouldn't comment on the film's title just yet. It's likely the studio is waiting to take over the web rumor mill at a later date once they officially release the title. There's no sense in doing it now while the mere news of the coupling of the two super heroes is still getting traction and attention in the business.
According to Comic Book Moive, the title roots back to some Superman movie lore from 2003. Back then, the studio was very close to making a Batman vs. Superman movie that would relaunch both super heroes simultaneously. However, that did not end up happening and the franchises were rebooted simultaneously.
As Entertainment Weekly points out, fans shouldn't get too attacked to the "vs." title. It conjures up monster mash movies like "Freddy vs. Jason" or "Godzilla vs. King Kong." The superhero films fall under the banner of Christopher Nolan movies, and he tends to air on the classier side of things. EW speculates a title that uses the ampersand "Batman & Superman."
