Pope Francis gave his old iPad to a Uruguayan priest hoping that it can do something good. It did, as it sold for $30,500 at a charity auction on Tuesday.
The proceeds will go to the Francisco de Paysandu high school.
"May you do something good with it," Uruguayan priest Gonzalo Aemilius told Reuters.
The "holiest iPad" was used by the pope to access his Twitter and Google Hangouts accounts, which helped make him known as a technology evangelist, according to the ABC News. The device has the words "His Holiness Francisco. Servizio Internet Vatican, March 2013," on it and has a certificate signed by the Pope's personal secretary, Fabian Pedacchio Leaniz.
The auction house Castells refused to provide many details about the winning bidder, a famous businessman in Uruguay, who placed his bid through telephone.
"I believe he is very Catholic," Montevideo auctioneer Juan Castell told MarketWatch. "He's so well-known."
This is not the first time that the pope donated his personal belongings. Early last year, he donated his Harley-Davidson motorbike, which sold for roughly $257,681, 20 times its original value. The proceeds went to the Caritas Roma charity for the renovation of a hostel and a soup kitchen.
