Sex Toy From 18th Century Discovered At Polish Sword Fighting School

A 250-year-old sex toy was discovered during excavations at what is believed to be an ancient sword fighting school in Poland, according to the Daily Mail.

Archaeologists were recently digging at the site in the Polish city of Gdansk when they came across a leather object shaped like a phallus.

"It was found in the latrine and dates back to the second half of the 18th century," said an unnamed spokesman for the Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments in Gdansk, the Daily Mail reported.

The 8-inch toy is "filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip that has preserved in excellent condition," the spokesman continued.

Scientists believe the site was an 18th century school for swordsmanship due to old swords found during the excavation.

Though the sex toy dates back hundreds of years, it's hardly the oldest ever found. Another one found in Germany is said to date back 28,000 years, making it possibly the oldest sex toy ever found. The phallus-shaped devices were often used as symbols to boost fertility and ward off malevolent spirits, according to the newspaper.

Experts are stumped as to how the Gdansk relic, which is to be preserved, ended up in the school's bathroom.

"It was probably dropped by someone in the toilet," the spokesman said. "Whether that was by accident or on purpose is anyone's guess though."
