Though she plays a meth-addicted inmate named Leanne in Netflix's hit drama "Orange is the New Black," I can assure you that Emma Myles' teeth are sparkling white in real life.
She's no sissy when it comes to playing a challenging role. In fact, she welcomes it.
"Anything I can sink my teeth into. Drug addicts, people with really messed up family lives. I go to the dark side. I want the dark stuff," she told Headlines & Global News of her ideal role before the world premiere of "The Wannabe."
In terms of preparation, Myles said that she has a different process for each part that she earns.
"It depends, but for me, I need to know my lines. If I don't know my lines, it's hard for me to start really thinking about the character. The more I think about them (lines), that's what allows me to see more of who this person is (the character)," she revealed.
Myles' character is buddy-buddy with Taryn Manning's Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett, and their on-screen friendship transcends into real life.
"It's great. She's amazing and a dear friend. I am so thankful for the show for bringing us together. She is one of my best friends," Myles said.
Manning recently said the same in regards to Myles.
"I've bonded with everybody," Manning told InStyle, but she named Myles and Lea DeLaria (Big Boo) as the two actresses she hangs out with most often while off duty.
Manning also revealed in the interview that Pennsatucky will "continue to evolve" as the drama unfolds, and while it is unclear what exactly that means, it doesn't matter too much because Manning's role is so dynamic that it won't ever become boring or stagnant.
"The one thing I can relate to is the underdog quality of her," Manning said.
"OITNB" was recently picked up for a fourth season, ahead of Season 3's June 12 premiere.
"It will all be unveiled very soon. I can't wait for everyone to see this season. It's really really special," Myles told HNGN.
In terms of how long she thinks the series will go on for, Myles said, "I think the idea is to be as good as we can for as long as we can."
She plans to keep herself fully devoted to "Orange" for its future installments.
"We always strive to be better. That's the goal. The last thing we want is for everyone to get to season three, and be like 'Oh, that was a bust!'"
Myles and other cast members of "Orange is the New Black" walked the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival this past Friday to support actor and director Nick Sandow for his new movie "The Wannabe."
Sandow plays Joe Caputo on the Netflix drama, an assistant warden who now has the task of filling Fig's shoes (and running Litchfield Penitentiary) after he discovered that she was embezzling prison funds. He threatened to expose her lies if she didn't walk away from the position.
"The Wannabe" chronicles the events of the 1992 trial of John Gotti and stars "Boardwalk Empire's" Vincent Piazza and Michael Imperioli, who is known for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in HBO's "The Sopranos."
Piazza is obsessed with becoming a gangster, and Sandow revealed that the plot derives from his real-life experiences of growing up in Mafia-dominated areas and "the gangster scene" - organized crime was a way of life and people needed to make money, according to Vulture. The film was produced by Martin Scorsese and premiered on April 17.
