Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger have not gone as far as to break up, but the couple is taking a "break," according to multiple reports.
Cyrus and Schwarzenegger first stepped out together publicly in November, but their relationship hits the rocks last month when the 21-year-old USC student celebrated spring break in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico without Cyrus.
Photos surfaced online during his trip that showed Schwarzenegger with his arms wrapped around another girl. He quickly defended the picture on Twitter saying the sorority girl was his "best friend's girlfriend" and that he "would NEVER do anything against my GF."
The entire episode left him "devastated and heartbroken" because he had caused the 22-year-old Cyrus pain, according to E! News.
"He doesn't even know what to do with himself and just wants to hide from the world," a source told E! News. "He's had some of his friends around for support, but he's very down and upset. He hasn't cracked a smile or been able to think about anything except Miley. He's so embarrassed and knows he screwed up."
Schwarzenegger and Cyrus quickly reunited upon his return home, grabbing lunch on April 2, but have not been seen together in public since then. They continue to talk, but neither remains as "serious or committed" to each other as before the incident, according to Us Weekly.
"The scandal did its damage," an insider told Us. "They both saw sides of each other they weren't pleased with but they were trying to make it work."
Schwarzenegger spent the past weekend riding bikes with his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and spending some time at Coachella.
Cyrus has been working in the studio, and posted multiple photos on Monday to her Instagram to celebrate 420, the unofficial holiday for smoking marijuana.
