The St. Louis Rams have been rumored to be interested in this year's top wide receiver prospects despite head coach Jeff Fisher's indication that he' content with the current group of pass-catchers.
But as we all know, coaches always say things they don't mean prior to the NFL Draft. The reality is the Rams need Nick Foles to succeed under center so providing him with an additional high-end weapon would go a long way in that regard. With the 10th overall pick in the draft, St. Louis will likely be in range of an enticing prospect at the position.
So which receivers are the Rams looking at?
ESPN NFL Draft Insider Todd McShay listed four specific names: Alabama's Amari Cooper, West Virginia's Kevin White, Arizona State's Jaelen Strong and USC's Nelson Agholar. Louisville's DeVante Parker and UCF's Breshad Perriman have also been mentioned as possibilities.
Cooper and White are not expected to be available by the time the Rams pick at 10. The Oakland Raiders (No. 4) and Chicago Bears (No. 7) have been linked to Cooper and White, respectively. But the rest of the players mentioned are definite possibilities (albeit maybe not at 10). Here's what McShay had to say about a few of them.
Jaelen Strong: "He has similar size and speed to Parker, but his game isn't that of a vertical threat. Instead, he is physical, create late separation by using his body to keep defenders away from the ball. He has the strongest hands of any receiver I've studied in this class, and is reliable in terms of coming down with tough catches. He reminds me of Anquan Boldin in that way."
Nelson Agholor: "He can play inside or outside, and is a smooth and sudden route runner. He has average size at 6-0, 198 pounds, but possesses good speed (4.42 40) and is a competitive player. He has above-average ball skills and can contribute in the NFL as a punt returner, having averaged 14.6 yards per return with four touchdowns during his USC career."
