The Top 10 singers shifted into overdrive on Monday night's "The Voice" as they fought to avoid the two eliminations that will take place on Tuesday.
All the competitors made compelling arguments to stick around with their performances, but singers Kimberly Nichole, Meghan Linsey, Koryn Hawthorne and Sawyer Fredericks really held the judges' attention.
Check out Headlines & Global News' recap for each performer and what the singers had to say about their performances.
Kimberly Nichole - Team Christina
Song: "Something's Got a Hold on Me" by Etta James
Christina Aguilera said Nichole's performance sent her "to church," and Adam Levine believes "the conversations should be serious about you winning this thing." Levine's comment left the Seattle native humbled.
"I just go out there and do what I love and try to be as true to who I am when I step on the stage. For them to see something special in me and that I could potentially win is a really humbling thing," Nichole told HNGN.
Joshua Davis - Team Adam
Song: "Hold Back the River" by James Bay
Davis stepped out of his comfort zone last night, and the coaches noted that he'd taken a big risk with his song choice.
"That was crazy out of my comfort zone," Davis said. "I really pushed myself to get those high notes out, so I'm excited I did it and hopefully next week I'll be able to put my foot down and show little more of who I am."
Hannah Kirby - Team Blake
Song: "Shout" by Tears for Fears
Kirby chose one of her favorite '80s tunes last night and her performance prompted Blake Shelton to call her "a freak of nature."
"I love Tears For Fears, so I just hope that I did it justice. Blake called me a freak of nature," she said, laughing. "It's amazing to hear those comments from my coach. The fact he trusted me with the song and let me be myself is absolutely amazing."
Meghan Linsey - Team Blake
Song: "Home" by Marc Broussard
Nichole may need to watch her back after Linsey's stunning performance. Although Levine gave high praise to the former, he told Linsey that her performance "threw you to the top."
"That felt so good," Linsey said of Levine's comment. "I feel like I've been waiting for that moment to really bring it and have all four judges stand. I did it! I threw myself into that performance and did the best I possibly could."
Koryn Hawthorne - Team Pharrell
Song: "Make It Rain" by Foy Vance
Hawthorne arguably gave the standout performance of the night. The 17-year-old singer's blazingly soulful version of "Make It Rain" redefined the competition.
"I feel blessed to be here, and my performance meant a lot to me," Hawthorne said. "I'm really blessed and overwhelmed, and hearing high praise from my ex-coach Christina Aguilera made it very special."
Deanna Johnson - Team Adam
Song: "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane
After surviving last week with a viewer save, Johnson took a risk performing the '60s classic.
"I've never done a song like this," Johnson said. "It pushed my range so it was a big challenge. But I had so much fun on stage and the risk definitely paid off. But singing having a good time is reward enough for me."
Rob Taylor - Team Christina
Song: "A Song for You" by Leon Russell
Taylor's emotional performance had an extra charge due to a special guest in the audience. His estranged father had come to watch him perform for the first time.
"It made it very emotional," Taylor said. "My relationship with my father has been very rocky since I was a child, but we're building. It was great to have him out in the crowd and to share that with him."
Cory Kent White - Team Blake
Song: "Unwound" by George Strait
White got a little tripped up in performance last night, reversing some of the country song's lyrics. Country superstar Blake Shelton was sure to call him out on his mistake.
"Yeah, I switched two lines around and got called out on it. Tough love, right? But I appreciate it and would've been worried if Blake hadn't said anything," White said. "George Strait fans everywhere know it's not the way the song goes and Blake gave me tough love. That's what a good coach does."
Sawyer Fredericks - Team Pharrell
Song: "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls
Fredericks again made his coach Pharell Williams proud with his performance. "We need more 16- year-olds like you in this country," Pharrell told the young man from Fultonville, N.Y.
"I think that's an amazing compliment," the assumed frontrunner said. "I know Pharrell wants me to be true to myself, but it's still amazing to hear things like that."
India Carney - Team Christina
Song: "Run to You" by Whitney Houston
This wasn't the first time Carney had performed Whitney Houston's song in public. She auditioned with the song for Broadway's "The Lion King" two years ago but unfortunately was turned down.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., native said performing it last night "felt different" on national television, but it also helped that she was physically feeling better than at the audition.
"I was a little under the weather for that audition, but I went because I didn't want to pass up the opportunity. It really didn't go over well that time, but I had faith that I could pick myself up and do it again and fix the mistakes that I made back then, and I think I did," Carney said.
The Top 8 will be revealed tonight when two competitors are eliminated on "The Voice" at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
