Sports fandom can make people say/do/think some crazy things.
A player like quarterback Tim Tebow, for instance, has become one of the most polarizing figures in the current public discourse, ironically as much for his life and faith off-the-field as for his play on it.
A first-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2010, Tebow struggled to acclimate himself to the NFL game, but was eventually able to break into the starting lineup thanks to the ineptitude of Kyle Orton and even managed to lead the Broncos to an improbable playoff run in 2011.
Since then though, Tebow has proven unable to maintain a steady position on an NFL roster, let alone a starting post, and actually spent the last two seasons out of the league.
According to at least one NFL conspiracy theorist, we now know why.
Christianity, Jews, Freemasons - that was one heck of an entertaining read. The notion that John Elway is a Freemason gets us here at HNGN every time.
Evan Mathis is, of course, one of the current starting guards for Tebow's newest team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
There has been ample media blathering concerning Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's decision to sign Tebow to a one-year, veteran minimum contract this week, but in all likelihood it won't amount to much.
Tebow reportedly spent his two seasons out of the NFL working with vaunted quarterback coach Tom House on fixing his mechanics and elongated motion, but barring a - dare I say, miracle - Tebow probably won't make it out of training camp. In three NFL seasons, Tebow has amassed 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions passing and also added 989 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing.
While the numbers don't seem entirely abysmal - and there's no doubting that Tebow also has a knack for playing his best in the game's biggest moments - he only amassed an 8-6 record as a starting quarterback for the Broncos before trying his hand as a fullback/tight end for a season in New York.
For the legions of Tebow fans that still exist out there, this tryout with Philly may represent Tebow's last opportunity at an NFL career.
We here at HNGN hope that high-level Freemason forces leave him to his last-gasp professional football effort in peace.
