Close to 1,000 apps for iOS are currently open to being hacked thanks to a new bug in the AFNetworking software.
Cybersecurity firm SourceDNA found the "major security flaw" in the software, which is used by 100,000 apps for iPhones, iPods and iPads, and discovered that the bug could give cyber criminals the ability to get through the SSL security certificate and "see all your app's user credentials and banking data," according to CBS News. The SSL security certificate is designed to keep app users safe from hackers whenever they go on the Internet.
Not all apps using AFNetworking are affected by the issue, as SourceDNA only found the problem in about 1,000 of the 20,000 iOS apps that were updated with the bad code.
App developers that are impacted by the flaw as of Monday include Uber and Yahoo Finance, NBC News reported.
SourceDNA has since provided a search tool that iOS app users can use to find out if their apps are on the list of those affected by the bug.
App users are advised not to use vulnerable apps until they are updated with secure software and to change their passwords in order to keep their personal data and credit card information safe.
