WNBA NEWS: Brittney Griner, Phoenix Mercury Star, Arrested For Assaulting Fiancee Glory Johnson

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was arrested at her home on Wednesday night for allegedly assaulting her fiancée Glory Johnson, according to a report from azcentral.com.

"Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was arrested Wednesday in Goodyear on allegations of assault," according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

"Griner, 24, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, according to booking information."

A police spokeswoman told azcentral.com that officers were called to the home around 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight and found that both Griner and Johnson were injured.

The report states that numerous people inside the house attempted to break up the fight, but Johnson's sister Judy reportedly called police after Johnson and Griner began "throwing things at each other" and couldn't be separated.

"We couldn't get them pulled apart," Judy Johnson said, according to the report.

Officers arrested both women at the scene.

"It turned into a fight. Broke up. We kept arguing, mouthing back and forth, clashed again, separated us, clashed again, separated us, and here we are now," Griner told officers, according to the police report.

Griner suffered injuries to her hand, including a "tooth mark" and Johnson sustained lacerations to her face.

Phoenix Mercury Executive Vice President and General Manager Jim Pitman released the following statement:

"The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner. We are in the process of gathering additional information, and will have no further comment at this time."

Griner helped the Mercury to the WNBA title in 2014 and was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-WNBA.

Johnson, 24, played forward for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock last season.

Griner and Johnson announced their engagement last summer when Griner posted a picture on her Instagram account of herself on one knee proposing to Johnson.

"Last Night was a Night to Remember I became the happiest person on this earth! (almost pass out but when that one word came out I came back to life) Me and my baby @missvol25 are in it for Life!"
