"Game of Thrones" alum Jason Momoa spoke to reporters this past weekend at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo about his role as Aquaman in next year's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." Although it is still not known what type of role he'll play in the film - small cameo or main character? - fans are still eager to see the onscreen adaptation of the famous DC character.
Momoa admitted that his version of the character will fit more within the grounded and realistic DC Cinematic Universe established in "Man of Steel."
"It has to be realistic and there's a lot of stuff in the comics that won't work on the screen," Momoa said. Which aspects may get the axe as a result? His telepathic communication with sea creatures and the wide and confusing array of powers his trident has come to mind.
But fans shouldn't worry that this iteration will completely differ from its comic book origins, as Momoa has been developing the character with a trustworthy source.
"I've been hanging out with Geoff Johns and he's a beast. He reinvented the character with the new 52. Like it or not, I'm the new f***ing Aquaman buddy," Momoa said in a nod to all the naysayers and haters who didn't respond well to the first photo of Momoa as Aquaman.
The King of Atlantis also revealed that "Justice League" will begin shooting around a year from now, though, the "Aquaman" solo film won't begin until 2018.
