At last night's Can Do Awards held in New York City, Daphne Oz took the opportunity to speak her mind about the ongoing drama surrounding her father, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is a faculty member at Columbia University and a well-known TV personality.
A group of doctors want Dr. Oz to resign from his position at the university, and he has recently been accused of "promoting treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain," which he insists is not true.
The 29-year-old "The Chew" co-host told Extra that the experience has been "painful," and revealed that her father would address the accusations and explain his health practices during his show on Thursday.
"It is very powerful, the message that he has to share about kind of how bogus the things coming out are. What I would say is, the biggest thing for him is just making sure that America can have conversations; we're about free speech, we about making smart and informed consumer decisions. That to me is the most important thing for me as a parent. I just want the best information I can have to share with my family and to make good decisions for my family, so the more we can have of that conversation, the better we are."
Daphne also mentioned that her father's intentions are never malicious or deceitful, and that he truly cares about his patients and their overall well-being.
"That's all his life has been about," she said. "Sharing that good information for America, making us healthier, making us happier."
Dr. Oz will not only address the accusations, but he has gone as far as to hire an investigative reporter for the episode to look into the individual backgrounds of the 10 physicians who called for his dismissal, according to People. They've accused him of having an "egregious lack of integrity" and a "disdain for science and for evidence-based medicine."
