Not much has been revealed about the role, but the Stewart representation will be "Southern" and "promises to upset the balance of power at the prison," according to avclub.com.
Stewart was convicted in 2004 of conspiracy and obstruction charges stemming from an insider trading scandal.
"OITNB" creator Jenji Kohan said that the character is not strictly based on Stewart's life, and that the show "took some liberties."
In the original memoir that the show is based on, Piper Kerman wrote about about how the lifestyle guru was almost sent to Danbury (the real-life basis for the show's Litchfield prison) before ending up in West Virginia, Time reported.
It has yet to be revealed who will play the role in the series, but Time confirmed that it will definitely not be Diane Keaton.
The real Martha Stewart stated at Tuesday night's "Time 100" gala that she had never watched the show, but when Time informed her of the casting decision, she said, "I'll look at it."
That doesn't give us much to work with.
Martha Stewart's clone isn't the only newcomer in the Netflix hit series. Ruby Rose will be playing a character who is described to be "gender fluid," and may start to toy with both Piper's and Alex's minds.
Season 3 of "Orange is the New Black" premieres June 12 on Netflix.
