Phoenix Suns’ forward Luis Scola could become a Pacer, according to ESPN.com citing a tweet from Scola’s publicist Juan Sebastia.
Sebastia, the forward’s publicist out of Argentina and the manager of Scola’s website, wrote on the social media website Friday that an official announcement about the trade would be made Saturday.
Both the Suns and Indiana Pacers have provided no comment on the trade possibility.
According to sources, the Pacers might send guard Gerald Green to and future draft considerations to acquire Scola.
Sources also say reports out of Argentina discussing a trade for Danny Granger are false.
The Pacers have been interested in Scola since he was a Houston Rocket.
The addition of Scola would add another big man to a team that already starts an all-star caliber center in Roy Hibbert and an exceptional power forward in David West.
Scola provides scoring and can add some rebounding as well. His career averages include 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds. Last season he averaged 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds.
The Argentina native does not jump very high and won’t swat shots into the stands. However, Scola is a creative scorer, will be an asset coming off the bench and can start in case of injury.
It will be interesting to see what the Pacers do if Granger comes back healthy. Guard Lance Stephenson, whose spot Granger would most likely take if he became a starter, grew as an NBA player last season under coach Frank Vogel. Stephenson provided toughness and scoring in the starting lineup and was an important part of the Pacers run to the NBA Finals.
