Nepal Earthquake: Facebook, Google, iTunes Apps Can Extend Help to Victims

Apps on Facebook and Google could help families and friends in search of loved ones who are still missing in earthquake-devastated Nepal.

For Apple users, donations run through iTunes. You can donate to Red Cross through the app on iPhones and other Apple peripherals..

Facebook's Safety Check, which launched in 2014, can see if users in the area are safe or affected by the tragedy. The users' friends can also do the same using the Facebook application, CNBC reported.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on his account Saturday reminding all users about the benefits of Safety Check.

Zuckerberg also expressed his support for those affected by the Nepal earthquake, which has taken at least 3,000 lives while rescue operations are ongoing.

Google, on the other hand, has a Person Finder, which has a missing person database.

Donations to help the victims of earthquake could be sent through the following:

The Save the Children Foundation: According to Time, the non-government organization has been in Nepal since 1976.

The Red Cross: It has initially committed $300,000 in financial donations while distributing tarpaulins, clothes, kitchen sets and mosquito nets. The Red Cross director for Asia Pacific, Jagan Chapagain, said through its website that Nepal's earthquake survivors would need food and clean drinking water.
