Kate Middleton is due to deliver royal baby number two at the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, but a ward at the hospital has been closed due to a nasty stomach bug that several of the patients have contracted, according to the Daily Mirror. Eight patients contracted potentially deadly CPE (carbapenemase producing enterobacteriaceae).
The 20-bed Zachary Cope ward, for vascular surgery, has been closed since April 15. A source told the Daily Mirror: "There is a massive deep-clean operation going on. There's no suggestion it could spread to other units but it couldn't be worse timing."
A spokeswoman for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust told the Daily Mirror: "A ward at St Mary's is temporarily not taking new admissions after we found a small number of vascular patients were carrying a micro-organism in their gut. Unfortunately three of these patients developed localised infections. All have completely recovered."
The Duchess of Cambridge will be in a separate wing of the hospital when she delivers. According to the Telegraph, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said the duchess' plans to give birth at the hospital have "not changed."
