It seems at least one of the rumored NFL landing spots for currenty and possibly soon-to-be-former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is no longer an option - assuming it ever actually was one to begin with.
The Dallas Cowboys, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, are out on Peterson. Luckily for Peterson and fans of the Cardinals, per Rapoport, Arizona is one of the few remaining teams who could potentially entice the Vikings enough to let Peterson go.
"A deal for Peterson would likely happen on Friday or not at all," Rapoport revealed, via Conor Orr of NFL.com. "Any return on the All-Pro would expect to yield a second-round pick and if the Cardinals do not find a running back they're in love with on Thursday night, Peterson could be the guy in Round 2."
Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports adds that there is ample interest between both Peterson and the Cardinals, but that if the Vikings are dead-set on a first-round pick instead of a second-rounder, the deal may never get done - unless, of course, if the Cardinals miss out on either Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon in the 2015 NFL Draft and become desperate.
"Bottom line: the Cardinals' front office and coaching staff feels like they already have a really good team, particularly if quarterback Carson Palmer is 100 percent," Robinson reports. "And while Peterson could significantly upgrade that offense, Arizona feels like the price of the 24th overall pick and three years of guaranteed money for a 30-year-old running back is too steep. Could that change on draft day? Possibly."
The Cowboys, on the other hand, reportedly haven't even spoken to the Vikings in recent days about Peterson.
"As it stands, Dallas has not even spoken with Minnesota regarding Peterson," writes Robinson. "Let that sink in: As of the start of draft week, the Cowboys have not spoken to Minnesota about Adrian Peterson, let alone made any trade offers. Anything stating the contrary is mythology."
While Peterson would "love" to play in Dallas, per Robinson, the Cowboys brass led by team owner/GM/future Bond villain Jerry Jones are not currently willing to part ways with the draft compensation it would likely require in order to bring Peterson and his ample salary into the fold.
