Teacher Hailed As Hero After Tackling School Shooter

Brady Olson, a teacher at North Thurston High School in Lacey, Wash., was hailed a hero after he tackled a teenage shooter at the school, stopping further damages and injuries to the students and staff that were present at the time of the incident.

Around 7:30 a.m. Monday, a single shot was fired by a teenage boy, believed to be a student of NTHS. Witnesses say that the boy fired at the upper hallway of the school gym. Local police has the boy in custody, and according to police reports, no one was hurt.

After apprehending the shooter, police made a sweep of the entire campus. Classes were suspended and all students were asked to gather at the South Sound Stadium football field where their parents picked them up.

Many people are thanking Olson, who teaches AP government and politics as well as civics at NTHS, expressing their thanks personally and via the social media. They all agree that his actions saved the lives of many during the shooting incident.

"I think it's heroic. ... People rise to the occasion when they need to do something," said Lacey Police Commissioner Chris Ward, according to NBC News. "I think, in this case, it probably prevented worse things from happening."

NTHS is about 60 miles southwest of Seattle. Olson potentially saved about 1,400 students and 130 faculty and staff of the school.
