During a late-night press conference, Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said that the destruction of one's own community is "a shame" and "sad." Although meetings between gang like the Bloods and Crips were allegedly held to discuss killing police officers, Batts blamed a lot of the violence on high school students who "thought it was cute to throw cinder blocks at police."
Batts also said the six officers who were seriously injured in the riots are all expected to fully recover.
"Take control of your kids," Batts said. "This is our city. Let's make a difference."
