Chicago Bears RUMORS: John Fox Eyeing Pass-Rushers in NFL Draft?

Rumors are fun to discuss as long as you remember that they are just that: rumors. They hold no credence and imply nothing. But once in a while, a rumor comes along that just makes a lot of sense. Rumors like the Chicago Bears being interested in pass-rushers in this week's NFL Draft.

The Bears finished last season 16th in sacks (39.0); they ranked 30th in defense overall, surrendering 377.1 yards per game. Imagine that, a Chicago Bears team that can't play defense. This truly is a crazy, mixed up world. Lucky for them, this draft is especially deep with pass-rushers.

Guys like Dante Fowler Jr. and Vic Beasley could conceivably go in the top five. Although their stock is falling a bit due to off-field troubles, both Randy Gregory and Shane Ray have top 15 talent. It will be interesting to see which direction the Bears go in at No. 7 overall.

"Pass rush is the first thing that comes to mind," new Bears general manager Ryan Pace said. "Edge speed. The ability to hit the quarterback. And then also the ability to set the edge and get off a block. But pass rush is the number one priority."

Head coach John Fox, as head coaches are wont to do, refused to confirm the team's interest in adding a pass-rusher this year. Guy must have a killer poker face.

"We're going to target anybody that makes us better in the draft," Fox said. "I think Ryan has the approach, which I am on board with, which is taking the best available player."

Some reports have linked the Bears to West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White. While White has just one year of big time production at WVU, he does possess an enticing combination of size, speed and athleticism. He projects to be a quality replacement for Brandon Marshall should Chicago decide to go that route.

But ultimately, a front-seven player is the more likely pick. The Denver Broncos selected one with their first pick in three drafts while Fox was the head coach. Whether or not that will continue, Fox wouldn't say.

"I think we'll let you know in late April."
