Mrs. Grey is finally speaking out!
While fans are still reeling from the loss of Patrick Dempsey's character Derek Shepherd on last week's episode of "Grey's Anatomy," the one person fans had not heard from is McDreamy's TV wife who will now be playing a widow.
Now, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey on the medical drama, is finally speaking out about Dempsey's departure from the show and how her character plans on moving on after the heartbreaking loss of her husband.
"I have always said what keeps me going is the fans. Knowing we move you and inspire you. There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy. Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children," the 45-year-old actress wrote in a note she posted to Twitter.
The actress has dedicated her performance on the show to the men and women who are also dealing with loss, writing, "People who get up each day and do what feels like is the impossible. So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible. I hope you will all join me on her journey. With gratitude and respect, Ellen."
Fans are apparently having a hard time with McDreamy's death on the show - some fans even signing a petition that demands show creator Shonda Rhimes bring back Derek's character by rewriting the dramatic death scene as a dream or hallucination.
After his character's death aired, Dempsey took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, tweeting, "I want to thank all the fans, what an incredible 11 yrs, I love you all."
"Grey's Anatomy" will air a special two-hour episode on Thursday, which will follow who the doctors and nurses at Seattle Grace hospital are coping with the aftermath of Derek's death.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dempsey called his relationship with his TV wife magical and added, "We're like a married couple. It's 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. Chemistry right away."
The 49-year-old actor also revealed that he hasn't come to terms with leaving his costars behind.
"I'm still processing it. This is part of the mourning process, the post-Grey's experience," he shared. "It was like any other day - just another work day. There was still too much going on. You're in the midst of it, not really processing it... I think any time an original cast member has left, there's always a void that will never be filled. Shepherd is a beloved character. People don't want to lose him. He's been in their lives for over 10 years. But it goes on, and it will evolve."
