After CBS passed on a television project that would resurrect the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise, the idea picked up so much traction that Paramount Pictures has put plans in motion to capitalize on the public's interest and make a fourth movie starring Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley.
The studio is currently moving quickly to creating a fourth installment of the popular action comedy series starring Murphy as a wise-cracking Detroit police officer who is called back to Beverly Hills for various reasons to show the white-collar detectives a thing or two about tackling real crime.
According to IGN, Paramount has hired Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to write the script. Murphy is said to be on board as well. There's no word yet if Brandon T. Jackson will be in the film as well. Jackson was to play Foley's son, and star of the show, in the television version of the show. With CBS rejecting the television show, the future of the plotline is up in the air. Sony Pictures Television and Paramount shopped the pilot around to other networks but no one else seemed interested. Perhaps the fourth film will show father and son vacationing to California and finding themselves in the middle of yet another high-intensity case.
The pilot was produced by Shawn Ryan of "The Shield" and Murphy. Ryan was the one to break the news to the world with a Tweet that read "Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development."
The original film was popular enough to merit two additional follow ups, bringing the current count to a trilogy.
