President Obama Thanks Japan for Anime, Emoji, Karaoke

While there are some reports about what President Barack Obama does for fun, there is a lot of speculation out there about what he watches or reads. For example, is the president a fan of anime?

This question was inspired by a series of comments made by the president during a welcome ceremony for the Japanese delegation. "Today is also a chance for Americans, especially our young people, to say thank you for all the things we love from Japan. Like karate and karaoke," Obama said to a laughing audience during his appearance with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "Manga and anime. And, of course, emojis."

"Obama also said the official state dinner with Japan, just the eighth such event since he took office in 2009, is an opportunity for him and first lady Michelle Obama to reciprocate the hospitality they have enjoyed during their trips to the country. 'In Kyoto, Michelle had the honor of playing taiko drums.' he said, to more laughter," reported Politico.

While this is likely just a passing remark designed to play to the crowd, it led some outlets to speculate about what anime shows President Obama would watch.

"I bet he loves Attack on Titan. 'Eren Yeager is my boy' - Obama, probably," says Kotaku writer Patricia Hernandez.

These comments come a few months after a series of memes arrived online where people photoshop anime characters into photos of President Obama. There's also been some speculation that Obama does enjoy some form of anime, though this hasn't been confirmed.
