Everyone knows Uber as an alternative form of transportation for people. But what if it could be an alternate package delivery service?
This is the idea behind a new program that Uber is currently testing with select vendors. TechCrunch was able to acquire the training documents that Uber is using to teach its drivers and couriers to deliver packages on a same-day basis.
Uber has partnered with the shopping app Spring to offer a same-day delivery service with select vendors.
"The company sent out an email yesterday offering Spring + UberRush for a limited time for brands such as illesteva, Bing Bang Jewelry, Phyllis + Rosie, Mack Weldon, Jinsoon, Industry Standard, Outdoor Voices and Negative Underwear," reports TechCrunch. Uber is also considering partnerships with other companies, but the logistics for that would be significantly more difficult, since they would have to manage and track local inventory.
When asked about the partnership, an Uber spokesman told TechCrunch that "experimenting and finding new, creative ways for the Uber app to provide even greater value to our riders and driver partners is a way of life at Uber. We have been piloting UberRUSH with multiple retailers for the last year."
While UberRUSH has been around for more than a year, TechCrunch believes that this particular delivery service is pointing to something much bigger than what UberRUSH or its other programs (UberFRESH, UberEssentials) has ever done. The framework makes it look like Uber is currently trying to design a delivery framework that will manage all of the independent delivery services that Uber is currently operating.
