The Minnesota Vikings and running back Adrian Peterson remain at a standstill over the 2015 season but that hasn't stopped the former MVP from sharing his opinions on the future.
"It would be nice," Peterson said of playing for the Dallas Cowboys. "I've got family here, my dad's here. But I'm under contract, so we'll see."
While the whole world wants to see a definitive resolution to the AP saga in Minnesota the reality is that one may not be coming. The Vikings have maintained their public position of not trading Peterson and keeping him on the roster for the 2015 season. They believe he and second-year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could form the foundation of a quality offense.
Behind closed doors, however, the Vikings have done their due diligence and realized that teams aren't too excited about relinquishing high round draft picks for a 30-year-old running back with a cap hit north of $15 million this season.
Still, the Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders have continually been mentioned as landing spots. The Cowboys, despite being AP's preferred team based on his comments, have said that they will not sacrifice marquee draft picks for any player this offseason. The team is also right up against the salary cap, making it unlikely that they could absorb Peterson's contract.
The Chargers seem like the most logical trade partner. They have the need at the running back position. But the Raiders and the Jaguars are still playing with a bundle of cap space and could emerge as the favorites in the Peterson sweepstakes should Minnesota change its tune.
