Indianapolis Colts RUMORS: Grigson Targeting Damarious Randall, Arizona State Safety, In First-Round Of NFL Draft?

The Indianapolis Colts are looking to take their roster from good to great.

A season after reaching the AFC Championship Game only to be absolutely trounced by the eventual Super Bowl Champions, the Colts have a handful of roster holes that GM Ryan Grigson began plugging in free agency and will continue to fill via the 2015 NFL Draft.

According to a report from Tony Pauline of Draft Insider, there's a "high percentage chance" the Colts will go with Arizona State safety/cornerback Damarious Randall should he be available at their pick, No. 29, in the first-round.

"Back on April 6th I reported that Damarious Randall of Arizona State could sneak into the late part of round one, which surprised many," writes Pauline. "Randall has since been stamped as the top safety on a number of boards outside war rooms though in my final safety rankings I still list him behind Landon Collins. In that report I mentioned the Arizona Cardinals as a team very high on Randal and in conversations earlier today I was told there's a high percentage chance the Indianapolis Colts will select Randall if he's still on the board at 29."

With last year's starter LaRon Landry released and despite the additions of Dwight Lowery and special teams maven Colt Anderson, Indianapolis could certainly use an influx of talent on the backend of their defensive secondary.

Randall has seemingly shot up draft boards in recent weeks, probably due in large part to the overall lack of depth at the safety position in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Beyond Alabama's Landon Collins - who reportedly isn't even a top pick for many teams - the safety class looks weak. Randall is sure to benefit from that fact.

Randall, 5-foot-11, 196-pounds, isn't very physically imposing - then again, no player who replaces Landry would be - but is a high-quality athlete with good speed who plays with a lot of effort and toughness and provides ample versatility, having spent a large portion of his collegiate career at corner. Randall finished his senior season for the Sun Devils with 106 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, three interceptions and nine passes defensed.

"I have him as the top safety in this draft so that should tell you what I think of his ability to play with his size. Just give me a good player," an NFC defensive backs coach said, per NFL.com's Lance Zierlein.

While Randall has long been talked about during the pre-draft process as a second or third day pick, it seems very possible at this point that he'll sneak into the latter portion of round-one, perhaps with Grigson and the Colts as his eventual landing spot.
