According to at least one person who has had recent discussions with the new Chicago Bears brass concerning their plans in the 2015 NFL Draft, former West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White could very well be the pick should he fall to No. 7 in the first-round.
That person?
Why, none other than White himself.
White, appearing at the NFL PLAY 60 Youth Football Clinic on Wednesday told reports on-hand that he believes the Bears are "very high" on him and that he has already spoken with them about filling the void left by Brandon Marshall's trade.
"I feel like if I'm there at seven, I think they will pick me," White said, via Chris Wesseling and Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "But you never know what happens in the draft. ... I guess we'll see."
White is right, of course, that nothing is yet set in stone and any number of scenarios are likely to play out Thursday night. That being said, should White make it past the first couple of selections, it seems entirely conceivable that he could fall to Chicago, meaning new Bears GM Ryan Pace and head coach John Fox could scoop him up and add him to their ever-decreasing arsenal of offensive weapons - Marshall was traded to the Jets, Pro Bowl running back Matt Forte isn't attending offseason workouts and a report emerged Wednesday that tight end Martellus Bennett was on the trade block.
This isn't the first time White's name has been connected with Chicago - the Bears recently hosted White for a pre-draft visit and the big-bodied wideout just seems like a natural fit to the Bears offense.
While White is certainly a possibility for a team like Jacksonville at No.3 and the Oakland Raiders at No. 4, the other teams in the top-six seem to have glaring needs elsewhere or could be set for trade downs in the first-round.
It's possible, of course, that any team that trades up ahead of the Bears could be targeting White, who finished his breakout senior season for the Mountaineers with 109 receptions, 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns, though it's unlikely.
There's no doubting that White seems quite capable of filling the hole left by Marshall's departure and potentially, even upgrading the spot across from Alshon Jeffery.
