It seems a recent trend for the St. Louis Rams to spend a high NFL Draft pick on the wide receiver position.
While the Rams have little to show for their efforts - they've invested six draft picks in the first four rounds in the last four drafts - St. Louis GM Les Snead and head coach Jeff Fisher may be set to go back to the well one more time as a recent report suggests the Rams brass are very high on former Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Amari Cooper in the 2015 NFL Draft.
"Hearing the Rams could move up for Amari Cooper, and if they can't move up, they could move back. Wildcard team," Dan Pompeii of Bleacher Report tweeted.
Despite the fact that former first-round pick Tavon Austin is rapidly approaching bust status and the fact that the team recently resigned Kenny Britt, Cooper would certainly upgrade the talent in the Rams receiver room.
Cooper, 6-foot-1, 211-pounds, is widely viewed as the most pro-ready receiver in the draft.
"Amari is super athletic, very fluid and highly skilled as a route runner and hands catcher. Because of his reserved demeanor and similar ability, I compared him to Marvin Harrison during the season," former NFL GM and current Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage said, per NFL.com's Lance Zierlein.
Cooper was asked to take on a major offensive role for the Tide last season and delivered, amassing 124 receptions, 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns - all marks which led the nation - on his way to winning the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to college football's most outstanding receiver.
While Cooper's perceived ceiling may not be as high as other first-round receivers like WVU's Kevin White or Central Florida's Breshad Perriman, he seems to be a much safer bet and will likely be able to come in and contribute to an offense right away.
