Is Ryan Phillippe destined to become Marvel superhero Iron Fist?
The open roster spot on the announced Netflix series could be filled by Phillippe after his upcoming meeting with Marvel.
The "Secrets and Lies" star first prompted speculation about joining the Marvel-Netflix fold as Danny Rand a.k.a. Iron Fist during a recent appearance on Howard Stern. Phillippe told the host that "Marvel is interested in talking about Netflix, a series possibly."
He later backtracked on that comment via Twitter.
Marvel announced last year that it would launch four solo shows on Netflix starring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. All four street heroes will later team up for a fifth series called, “The Defenders.”
“Daredevil,” starring Charlie Cox, premiered earlier this month to rave reviews and has become one of the most watched original series on Netflix. Krysten Ritter will star as Jessica Jones in the upcoming “A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” which could premiere as soon as late 2015. The show has begun filming with Mike Colter as Luke Cage, who will then go on to star in his own series.
Iron Fist gained his powerful fist in the mystical city of K'un L'un, where he also learned martial arts. He frequently teams up with Luke Cage in the Marvel comic books.
