2015 NFL Draft: St. Louis Rams Select Todd Gurley

The St. Louis Rams provided football fans with the first real surprise of the NFL Draft by selecting Georgia running back Todd Gurley with the No. 10 overall pick.

Gurley is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in November but is expected to be ready by mid season. When healthy, he is the most talented ball carrier in this draft. The Rams obviously think high enough of Gurley to make him the first running back selected in the first-round since 2012.

Gurley joins a somewhat crowded backfield in St. Louis. Tre Mason emerged as a homerun threat last year and was expected to be the lead back in 2015. Benny Cunningham is a solid pass-catcher and Zac Stacy is a hard runner even though he fell out of favor with head coach Jeff Fisher last year. The Rams now have four young running backs with talent.

However, St. Louis' offensive line is still a big question mark. You could make the argument that they need three new bodies up front. The receiving corps is also mediocre. St. Louis had been linked to talented pass-catchers such as DeVante Parker and Breshad Perriman in recent weeks.

But Gurley possesses a rare combination of size and speed and has been compared to Marshawn Lynch. Clearly, that was enough to entice the Rams.
