Star Wars Episode 7 News: John Williams Returning, Less CGI and More Real Droids Expected (VIDEO)

When the majority of the cast from "Return of the Jedi" showed up at the Star Wars Celebration in Germany there was speculation that an announcement would be made regarding the casting of "Star Wars: Episode VII," possibly the return of the big three. Sadly, there were no developments on that front.

Fans still had reason to celebrate when a major return to the film series was announced; John Williams will be writing the music for the new trilogy, according to Slash Film.

Williams' score played a major role in making the first three Star Wars films so iconic. From the second the opening scroll begins the music holds your attention. And who hasn't hummed the Imperial March whenever they want to make themselves feel tough?

Producer Kathleen Kennedy made the announcement that Williams plans on writing the music not just for "Star Wars: Episode VII" but for all three upcoming movies.

"I had breakfast with someone very important to the 'Star Wars' family on Friday, and he was committed to being involved in the next three films, and that is Mr. John Williams," Kennedy told the crowd at the Star Wars Celebration.

In addition to the return of Williams Kennedy spoke about how the new films will try to rely on computer-generated effects less than the three prequels did in an attempt to recreate the feel of the original trilogy, according to Metro.

"Looking at all the "Star Wars" movies and getting a feel for what even some of the early films did, combining real locations and special effects - that's something we're looking very seriously at," Kennedy said. "It's using model makers, it's using real droids, it's taking advantage of artwork that you actually can touch and feel."

Of course, if the writing is as bad as some of the writing was in the prequels no one will care if the effects feel more real. Kennedy gushed about the writing team that has been assembled and hinted that things were going very well, according to Metro.

"It's going fantastically well - J.J. and I meet almost every day," Kennedy said. "We've got Larry Kasdan, who worked on Empire and Jedi, as a writer. We have Michael Arndt writing, who had previously been with Pixar doing 'Toy Story' and won an Academy Award for 'Little Miss Sunshine.' I think the team that we've assembled, everyone gets on so amazingly well - it's been fantastic."
