The Duggar family tried to carry out their Christian duty of charity at a local thrift store, but found no one in need of a contribution. So in the absence of a needy family, the "19 Kids and Counting" clan simply faked it.
The Duggars tweeted on Monday afternoon that they would be handing "out food to families in need" at the Compassion Center in Sprindale, Ark. later that evening. They ended up arriving 30 minutes late along with an entire TLC production crew, according to Radar Online.
"Suddenly the parking lot was filled with large SUVs, production crew, chaos!" an eyewitness told Radar. "Jim Bob directed every car as to where it should park."
Instead of meeting needy families, the reality stars were met by a herd of curious fans hoping to catch a glance of Jim Bob, Michelle and the kids. Producers found one family shopping for clothes and quickly coaxed them into signing wavers to put them on camera.
The Duggars then headed back outside to retrieve the boxes of foods, way more than what was necessary for one family. The producers made the family enter the store three times with the boxes to get the perfect shot.
The "needy" Martinez family accepted a box of food from Duggar patriarch Jim Bob and recited the lines fed to them by producers. "Let's go over this... You're really happy that the Duggars have brough you this food, you really need this for your family," the producers told them, according to the eyewitness.
Jim Bob then waxed on about his poor upbringing and cooking rice in a jar meant for decoration only. "That was our dinner," he reportedly exclaimed.
A Duggar son then placed the box into the Martinez car, only to have it taken back out when the cameras stopped filming. All the boxes of food were then packed back into the Duggar vehicles.
And that's how you stage a charity scene for reality TV. Thanks for the lesson, Duggars.
