NBC Picks Up Three New Shows: ‘Chicago Med,’ ‘Blindspot’ And ‘Heartbreaker’ To Premiere This Fall

NBC will double down on the medical dramas and add a mystery thriller to the 2015-2016 TV season.

The network announced its first series orders on Friday with the additions of the second "Chicago Fire" spinoff, "Chicago Med," another hospital-set drama, "Heartbreaker;" and a non-comic book series from producer Greg Berlanti, "Blindspot," according to multiple reports.

The characters of "Chicago Med" first made their debuts in a backdoor pilot on "Chicago Fire" earlier this month. The Dick Wolf production will star Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Holden, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya Dacosta.

"Heartbreaker" stars Melissa George, who knows her way around an operating table from her days on "Grey's Anatomy." She plays Dr. Alex Panttiere, an outspoken, world-renowned heart-transplant surgeon and one of the few women in her field.

The show is inspired by the life of Dr. Kathy Magliato and based on her book "Heart Matters" (the original title of the series). Alex brings an innovative eye to treating patients week to week while also balancing the complications of her professional and romantic life. George will be joined by Dave Annable, Shelley Conn, Don Hany, D.L. Hugley, Jamie Kennedy, Maya Erskine, J. Louis Mills and Joshua Leonard.

"Blindspot" could join Berlanti's other NBC series "The Mysteries of Laura" this fall (a decision on the Debra Messing cop show has not been made). The show centers on a beautiful woman, played by "Thor" star Jaimie Alexander, who is found naked in Times Square with no clue as to her identity and covered in tattoos. Her discovery launches an investigation by the FBI as they connect the images on her body to crimes that could lead them to discovering "Jane Doe's" identity.

All three shows will premiere this fall on NBC.
