The holdout is over. The New York Jets has finally signed ninth overall pick Dee Milliner, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.
The two sides agreed to a four-year, 12.66 million dollar deal.
The Jets took University of Alabama cornerback in what is perceived as a move to Derrell Revis. However, the Jets recently made it clear they don’t expect him to be Revis.
Although Milliner says he’s “100 percent,” Gang Green will be watching to see if he has fully recovered from his March shoulder surgery.
According to NewYorkJets.com, the 21-year old rookie says he’s been staying in shape.
“I’ve just been at school running, training, doing the same things that they do here,” he said. “I’m very much in shape, like I’ve been playing football the whole time. If my trainers want me to go full throttle as soon as I get back, I’m ready for that.”
Despite the fact Milliner has missed an extended amount of time, he doesn’t think he’ll have to spend a lengthy period catching up with the gameplan.
“I’ve been seeing the plays, been a part of them at practice, watching, learning,” he said. “I just haven’t been on the field, but it’s football so you get back out there, get back in the roll of things. I know I’ll be fine, it’s just getting back to it and actually going out there and playing.”
Milliner also plans to play hard no matter where he lines up on the field.
“You go out there, control what you do," he said, "and that’s just going out there and playing your best, doing your best and you leave it up to the coaches. They make the ultimate decision whether or not you get your playing time.”
Hopefully for the Jets, Milliner plays like the ninth overall pick in the draft. He will likely not be able to replace Revis’ production. However, if he is able to perform at a high level, Rex Ryan’s defensive genius should take care of the rest.
