Law enforcement officials have caught the two Wagoner County jail escapees on Tuesday.
According to Newson6.com, Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert said Larry Cotton, 35, and Mickey Staggs, 38, assaulted a jailer, stole his keys and fled just before 9 p.m.
The jailer had no serious injuries from the assault.
"As I said last night to the citizens, who trust in us to keep these inmates in jail. That didn't happen," Colbert told KTUL.com.
Cotton is described as 6-foot-tall, 210 pounds. Staggs, who also goes by Skaggs, is 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds.
The sheriff's office said they ran off to the south of the jail, according to Newson6.com. Deputies found the escapees' shoes and one set of clothes on the premises.
Newson6.com listed the charges of both inmates are facing:
Staggs was sentenced to two counts of possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, possession of a stolen property, and removing a proper or affixing an improper license plate, as well as failure to carry insurance.
Cotton is charged with possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, endangering others while attempting to elude police, possession of a stolen vehicle, knowingly concealing stolen property, and several other traffic related charges, including running a roadblock and failure to pay a toll.
According to Oklahoma Department of Corrections records, Cotton previously did time for possession of a controlled drug and larceny of an automobile. He was released in 2011.
Staggs, meanwhile, was incarcerated until 2006 for possession of a stolen vehicle, false impersonation and possession of a controlled drug.
According to the Associated Press, Cotton was arrested without incident Tuesday inside a vacant apartment. Staggs found walking in a wooded area near Sperry, and apprehended close to noon.
Colbert told KUTL.com, "while he has been in his position, there has been one issue in which an inmate taking the trash out attempted an escape."
