Brian Moore: NYPD Officer Dies Two Days After Being Shot in Head by Ex-Con in Queens

Brian Moore, the 25-year-old NYPD officer who was shot in the head on Saturday, has died.

The New York Post reports that on Monday afternoon, Moore's family removed him from life support. His parents and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton were both in the hospital when Moore died.

According to the NY Post, Moore's father Raymond, who is a retired cop, is "devastated."

Moore had been in a medically induced coma since Saturday night, when he had procedures done to save his life after the shooting.

Ex-con Demetrius Blackwell, the main suspect, is being held without bail for the incident that took place in Queens, N.Y.

The NY Post reports that Moore and his partner Erik Jansen approached Blackwell because they believed he was carrying a gun in his waistband. Here is the exchange that occurred, sources told the Post:

"Do you have something in your waist?'' Moore asked Blackwell, 35, while sitting behind the wheel of the cops' unmarked car, sources said.

"Yeah, I got something," Blackwell, 35, snarled back.

Blackwell then fired at least two shots, missing Jansen but hitting Moore in the head.

According to CBS New York, Blackwell shot at the officers in a "vicious manner." He has been arrested nice previous times and was charged for assaulting a police officer in 2013.

The NY Post reports the state is attempting to change the charges against Blackwell from attempted murder to murder.
