Melissa Rivers said she filed the malpractice lawsuit against her mom Joan Rivers' doctors at Yorkville Endoscopy because her death was "100 percent preventable."
Melissa spoke publicly about her mother's death for the first time in eight months since Joan's death on the "Today" show with Matt Lauer.
Joan died after undergoing a minor throat procedure on her vocal chords after suffering from cardiac arrest during the surgery at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York City.
"In my opinion, it was 100 percent preventable," Melissa said. "How about paying attention to the vital signs? How about having a properly equipped crash cart?"
Melissa said she isn't filing the lawsuit for the money. Instead she is hoping to prevent a similar "medical mismanagement" from happening in the future.
