While on vacation in Thailand, American tourist Bobby Ray Carter, Jr., 51, was killed at Ao Nang beach in Thailand after a drunken brawl broke out Early Wednesday morning, Fox News reported.
Police said Carter, a Texas native, insisted on singing with the band at Longhorn Saloon and refused to leave the stage which led to an altercation with band members. One of the musicians stabbed him in the chest with an iron rod.
Carter's 27-year-old son, Adam, was injured in the head.
On its website, the Longhorn Saloon claims patrons can "jam with the band." Additionally, they advertise as a family-friendly establishment and provide children's entertainment.
Police Lt. Col. Jongrak Pimthong said Carter died at the hospital. Each band member was subsequently arrested and face charges of death by physical attack.
"Witnesses said Carter got angry when the band played 'Hotel California' instead of the song he requested, and he refused to step down," Krabi city police chief Col. Taksin Pochakorn told reporters.
According to police, the angry feud began outside of the bar directly after Carter asked for his tip back.
Ao Nang is a resort town located in the District of Krabi Province. Thailand has recently dealt with serious concerns from potential tourists to politicians over the safety of visitors to the popular vacation spot. According to Fox News, another American man was killed in early July after an argument over cab fare with a taxi driver. In June of 2012, a 59-year-old Australian woman was murdered during a robbery.
Aside from the concerning death toll, tourists have also listed complaints with authorities regarding scams, robberies, assault, and even problems with the local police, Fox News reported.
Tourism is an essential part of the local economy. Just last year, a total of 22 million people visited Thailand.
