Floyd Mayweather's ex-girlfriend filed a defamation lawsuit against the boxing champion Tuesday, saying that he lied in a recent interview about her being on drugs the morning of a 2010 domestic violence incident, according to CNN.
Josie Harris, the mother of Mayweather's children, is asking for $20 million in damages because the fighter made wrong accusations in his interview with Yahoo's Katie Couric. He mentioned in the interview that Harris was on drugs during the altercation.
The incident in question happened in September 2010 when Mayweather was arrested for punching Harris in his Las Vegas home. He pleaded guilty 14 months into the trial and was sentenced to three months, of which he served two, as CNN reports.
The boxer reportedly told Couric last month: "Did I kick, stomp, and beat someone? No, that didn't happen. ... Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that's domestic violence, then, you know what? I'm guilty. I'm guilty of restraining someone," according to NY Post's Page Six.
Harris now lives in Valencia, Calif., and filed suit in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, claiming defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
Harris firmly denies being a drug addict, and her attorney has made clear in court that it was not Mayweather's restraining that caused severe injuries on Harris, but his beating.
Mayweather's camp has not made any comments regarding the suit.
