Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was supposed to be off Tuesday as per a scheduled resting day. However, he was able to convince coaches to let him get on the field, according to ESPNDallas.com. The Cowboys QB participated fully during red-zone and short-yardage practice.
The plan was for Romo to have back to back off days with another day off scheduled for Wednesday. However, the team decided one day off would be sufficient.
"We're trying to be real smart with him, and he knows that," quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. "He didn't overdo anything today and he gets a full day off tomorrow. He is an aggressive personality when it comes to doing his part, though."
A reporter asked Romo about the day off but he chose not to offer any comment.
Romo did not practice with the team at all this offseason due to a cyst removal surgery performed on his back. The Cowboys maintain Romo is healthy and ready to be on the field.
Romo said earlier this week the back is not causing above-average discomfort.
"It would be the same if you asked me if there was soreness in my legs," Romo said when asked if he felt soreness in his back. "It's just part of being in camp."
There has been speculation as to whether or not Romo will participate in the annaual Hall of Fame game The 11-year veteran expressed has said he wants to play in the contest which marks the beginning of the NFL Preseason.
"If I did play, it would be a series, [so] whether you went eight plays or three plays, I'm not sure how much that is going to affect that," Romo speculated. "Saying that, I still want to play every time I suit up. Every time I step out there -- your juices are flowing and you want to compete. From that perspective, yeah, but whatever the coaches want."
Head Coach Jason Garrett said a decision will be made this week concerning Romo’s availability for the game. Team officials say they will continue to monitor Romo.
"I think he's gotten better every day," Wilson said. "I think initially there was a little bit of rust and dealing with the speed, but he missed the whole spring, but now he's playing well."
