"Star Wars" fans are always eager for any and all morsels of knowledge about the upcoming film. Every little bit helps to paint a clearer picture of the upcoming additions to one of the most famous (and infamous) film franchises of all time. Today, we can add one more parsec to a journey.
Guatemalan actor Oscar Isaac ("Inside Llewyn Davis," "Ex Machina") spoke to the Associated Press about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and revealed that his character, Poe Dameron, could be from the planet Yavin 4. All of you hardcore "Star Wars" fans out there will remember that Yavin 4 was represented in 1977's "Star Wars: A New Hope," with the landscape of Tiakl.
This is especially important because fans have been speculating whether or not Poe is related to Bail Organa, Princess Leia's adoptive father and Viceroy of planet Alderaan, who was portrayed by Jimmy Smits in the prequels.
"What's actually interesting is that Yavin...at the end of the very first 'Star Wars'...that last scene was shot in Guatemala and you know, I think that Poe Dameron is from that planet.. and that's a beauftiful coincidence," Isaac said.
If true, this would put to bed the Poe-Leia connections. However, there are several other rumored familial relationships that might make this new film emotionally resonant due to blood connections. Director J. J. Abrams has said that he wants to honor the old trilogy while also composing a story that can stand on its own.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" takes place roughly 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi" and will hit theaters on Dec. 18.
