A pit bull who saved the life of a domestic abuse victim is changing the way people in Hazel Park, Mich. look at pit bulls.
Ice the pit bull recently intervened when his human, Jamie Kraczkowski, was shoved against the wall by her drunk boyfriend. Ice came to the rescue by grabbing on to the man's pant leg and pulling him away, reported FOX 2.
Hazel Park doesn't allow pit bulls in the village, so when officials originally came to the scene they warned that Ice would have to be euthanized if he wasn't removed from the citiy within five days - despite his heroic actions.
Instead, fellow dog-lovers stepped up at a village council meeting, successfully convincing the village to allow pit bulls in the neighborhood because Ice proved that not all pit bulls are dangerous.
"It's not just just pit bulls. I've got nieces and they have a pit bull and live up north and the dog protects the baby," Meghan Bouchard, a resident who defended pit bulls at the meeting said told FOX 2. "If you have a responsible owner, pit bulls are great dogs"
Pit bulls were banned in the village in 2013 after seeing an excessive amount of reports of pit bull bites, reported FOX 2. The rule was finally revoked with a few limitations - all pit bulls in Hazel Park must be licensed, neutered, spayed, and trained.
