"Avengers: Age of Ultron" director Joss Whedon has not been shy about sharing his dissatisfaction with Marvel studios over the last few weeks. In addition to lightly criticizing the studio for their stringent requirements, Whedon has also said he wants to take some time to rest and work on original projects.
But what if another branch of Disney comes calling with another incredibly tempting opportunity?
"The Lucasfilm Story Group, [Lucasfilm President] Kathleen Kennedy, and Disney would love to fold the writer/director into a Star Wars projects," Latino Review positioned, "and after Whedon successfully navigated Marvel's Phase 2 through Age of Ultron, Disney thinks he's more than capable of heading up a Star Wars thing for them.
"...Whedon could go in the [Josh] Trank spot. The [Boba] Fett movie sounds like a mess. Not only was/is Boba Fett hard to crack for Disney, but now that this is an 'origin story' it's probably going to change everything for one trilogy.
"Bottom line: Joss Whedon's circling Star Wars. They are courting him. He is very tired, but - hey! - it's Star Wars."
Whedon has developed several successful shows that have amassed cult followings such as "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly." He's also Hulk smashing box office records with both of his "Avengers" films. Could he take a crack at a "Star Wars" standalone film or possibly even Episode IX?
Director Josh Trank and Lucasfilm recently parted ways, as Latino Review notes, on the Boba Fett Anthology film. Additionally, Episode IX has yet to claim a director, though it is widely believed that J.J. Abrams will return for that film.
