Russian Lawyer Anatoli Cuchara, who provides legal guidance to American whistleblower Edward Snowden, is open to negotiations with the Washington government that will satisfy all the concerned parties.
This was revealed by the lawyer of Snowden's father who spoke to the whistleblower recently. Snowden has been holed up in the transit zone of Moscow's airport since June 23.
"There may be a time, where it would be constructive to try and meet and see whether there can't be common ground that everyone agrees would advance the interest, the United States, Mr. Snowden, Lon, his father and the interest of Russia in trying to resolve this in a way that honors due process and the highest principles of fairness and civilization," Cucahra told the lawyer of Snowden's father.
Snowden's father this week urged his son to remain in Russia until he was confident that he would get a fair trial back in the United States.
Lonnie Snowden also said that the FBI had asked him to visit his son in Russia and he declined the offer.
Disclosing FBI's offer, the father said his son "made America a more democratic country" by leaking National Security Agency's secret surveillance program of monitoring movements and communications of the people.
Snowden made asylum requests to more than 25 countries but only a few Latin American countries responded to his plea. He would be travelling to a country in Latin America if he manages to get the papers for travelling. His passport has been revoked by his government soon after he fled Hong Kong following an arrest warrant issued by the Washington government on charges of espionage and theft of government property.
