Rainn Wilson and Kevin Bacon won't be walking the beat next season.
Fox has cancelled both crime dramas "Backstrom" and "The Following."
Wilson made his return to TV in the new series "Backstrom" after starring on "The Office" for nine seasons. The show premiered to eight million viewers, but ratings steadily declined after that.
"The Following" started a trend for networks to book star power, like Bacon, on shows that have shortened seasons. ABC saw the strategy work this season with Viola Davis in "How to Get Away with Murder."
Fox also canceled the freshmen comedy "Weird Loners," which was a midseason replacement.
