Commissioner Roger Goodell laid down the law on quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on Monday in the wake of the findings of the Wells Report. The investigation determined it was "more probable than not" Brady was "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" dubbed 'Deflategate.'
"Quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2015 regular season for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL." the league said in a statement Monday afternoon, via NBC News. "Brady may participate in all off-season, training camp and pre-season activities, including pre-season games."
Brady will miss the team's first four matchups against the Pittsburgh Steelers (the first game of the 2015 season), Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys. The team has their bye-week in Week 4, so Brady will return to action in Week 6.
But that's not all.
According to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, the Patriots will be fined $1 million and will forfeit their 2016 first-round draft pick and their 2017 fourth-round draft pick.
As of right now, second-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to get the nod on Sept. 10, but head coach Bill Belichick and the Pats have plenty of time to determine who they want to have under center to start the season.
More updates are expected soon.
