Amazon has announced the company's plans to open a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Carteret, New Jersey. The center is expected to create hundreds of full-time jobs for the locals.
"We're excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Carteret, creating hundreds of full-time jobs that offer wages 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores and include comprehensive benefits on day one, bonuses and stock awards. New Jersey is a great state to do business and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers in the region," Amazon's vice president of North America operations Mike Roth said in a statement, according to BusinessWire.
New Jersey Governor Kim Guadagno welcomed this news and said: "Amazon is doubling down its investment in New Jersey, showing other companies the value of growing their business in the Garden State. This million-square-foot fulfillment center - the second such facility here in New Jersey - will create hundreds of full-time, permanent jobs: it's a win for Amazon and the State," TechNewsToday reported.
Amazon's New Jersey Fulfillment center's first shipment was dispatched from its existing center in Robbinsville, in July last year. Customer demands increased soon thereafter - which has created more jobs, so hiring continues.
Aside from offering market competitive wages, Amazon offers innovative employee programs such as the Career choice initiative, wherein Amazon will shoulder education expenses of up to 95 percent tuition fees for high-demand courses - regardless of whether the skills are relevant for a career at Amazon. Ever since Career choice was launched, employees have pursued different degrees in the field of Information technology, communications and game design.
